Dear Resident, A worried elderly man in Impington called us concerned about his vulnerable wife who has dementia at 2.30pm last Saturday.
The man said his wife had been out for more than four hours and had left her phone behind but took her purse. He was worried she had got the bus somewhere but had then got lost – adding that the nature of her dementia meant she could act unpredictably.
Thankfully, she returned home less than 10 minutes later but we took the time to share some extra measures the man could take to help keep his wife safe in the future.
This included filling out our Herbert Protocol form online - which encourages family and friends to collate key info such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and a recent photo of a loved one with dementia that will help officers if they go missing.
More than 135 people have already done the same. The woman will also be given one of our new yellow wristbands, like a watch in appearance, which will contain her next of kin’s contact details and number. | |
If you see someone looking confused or disorientated but wearing one of these wristbands, you can use your phone to easily bring up the information and reunite the person with their family.
To register your interest for one of the new wristbands or fill out our new Herbert Protocol form for a loved one, visit the dedicated page on our website.
Kind regards, |
