20 drivers stopped during rural speed checks

Dear Resident,

In response to concerns from locals about speeding in Thorney and Newborough, yesterday we spent some time in the area carrying out speed checks.

20 drivers were stopped for exceeding the 30mph speed limit – one was found to have expired tax, one was reported for speeding after being caught doing 36, and the others were given words of advice for being marginally over the limit.

One driver in Thorney ended up having to find a different way home after we seized their car after we found the driver didn’t have a licence, and therefore no valid insurance!

We will aim to do these speed checks when we can in order to tackle the issue. We can’t be everywhere, but we could be anywhere!

Do you have any concerns? Let us know here.

Kind regards,
