Prevent thieves from breaking into your car

Dear Resident,

Have you ever accidentally left your phone on show in the car? Maybe a wallet on the backseat? Or a sat nav in the glove box?

Thieves are always on the lookout for an easy way in. It can take less than 30 seconds to break into a vehicle and steal anything that may have been left in there.

Want to make sure this doesn't happen to you? Take note of the tips below:

1. Take it or hide it

Never leave wallets, phones, handbags, credit cards or anything that is valuable in an unattended vehicle.

2. Hide electrical items and leave no clues

Leaving sat nav mounts, suction cup marks on windows or cables on view can give it away that you have left a smartphone or other device in your car. Always try and take these with you.

3. Park in well-lit and busy areas

Parking in areas that have CCTV, are well-lit and busier increases the chances of a thief being seen, so they will probably steer clear.
