Peterborough shop “closed” to tackle organised crime

Dear Resident,

Our Neighbourhood Support Team (NST) have closed down a store and flat in the city centre after concerns around the sale of illicit products and links to organised crime.

In November, the team carried out a warrant at International Food Store, where they found a large amount of illicit products, such as cigarettes, more than £14,000 in cash and a substantial amount of Sildenafil tablets – commonly known as Viagra which is a prescription-only drug.

A man in his 30s and a man in his 40s were arrested on suspicion of various offences in connection with the warrant, and have been released on bail until February.

Following a successful application at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, a full closure order has been served on the shop and adjoining flat.

The order, which is in place until 30 March, states both premises are closed to everyone except for emergency services and employees of Peterborough City Council and their agents. Those who live on the premises have until 10 January to vacate, otherwise will find themselves in breach of the order, which is a criminal offence that could result in imprisonment of up to three months, a fine, or both.

Anyone with information about the order being breached can report it to us by calling 101 or online.

You can read more about the closure order on our website.

Kind regards,
