Neighbourhood officers use sport to improve connections with the young people in the community

Dear Resident,

In a bid to improve our relationship with young people in our communities, we have been working with a variety of organisations and charities recently.

One of the organisations we have been working closely with is Cricket East , who have Peterborough Wicketz groups across the eastern sector of Peterborough. The organisation provides a safe place where children can develop and learn new skills, and meet new people.

We were invited to join them at a cricket tournament they hosted, where 100 children from Peterborough and Luton got together for a day of sport with talks from us and a local PCSO about a variety of topics such as hate crime, knife crime and how to stay safe on the internet.

The group holds free sessions and new players are always welcome! If this is something you’re interested in, the sessions are:

🥎Softball for ages 8-14 on a Monday at Gladstone Park Community Centre, Millfield, between 5.15pm and 6.45pm

🥎Softball for ages 8-14 on a Tuesday at Focus Community Centre, Dogsthorpe, between 5pm and 6.30pm

🥎Hardball for ages 15-19 on a Wednesday at Thomas Deacon Academy between 4pm and 5.30pm

🥎Tape Ball and Hardball for ages 13-15 on a Wednesday at Thomas Deacon Academy between 6pm and 7.30pm

🥎Softball for ages 8-14 on a Thursday at Millfield Community Centre between 5.30pm and 7pm

🥎Softball for girls ages 8-15 on a Thursday at Millfield Community Centre between 7pm and 8pm

Kind regards,
