First loud exhaust stopped in Isleham

Dear Resident,

Last month we told you about new noise equipment the neighbourhood officers are trained to use in order to tackle anti-social driving across East Cambridgeshire.

The sound monitoring equipment alerts officers at the roadside if an exhaust is too loud. The legal limit for cars is 80 decibels and it is illegal to modify an exhaust to be louder than this.

Motorists could be given a £50 Fixed Penalty Notice for either failure to maintain the system or use of a vehicle with an altered system or excessive noise.

In Isleham officers stopped a vehicle which gave a reading much higher than 80. On this occasion the driver was given strong words of advice and told to change his exhaust back to stock or be prosecuted.

We're happy to say that he's since been to the garage to make the required changes.

Please continue to report concerns to us so we can act on them.

Kind Regards,

PC Lewis Sutcliffe

East Cambridgeshire Neighbourhood Policing Team
