April newsletter from your city centre neighbourhood team

Dear {FIRST NAME},

Welcome to the April edition of your neighbourhood policing newsletter.

Over the last three months, your Peterborough City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team have been focussing on three main areas as their local priorities, based on feedback from the community.

Anti-social behaviour in Henry Penn Walk (rear of Vierzen Platz) – the team have completed about 100 hours of dedicated patrols in the area throughout the previous three months. Engagement has taken place with several rough sleepers and details passed to partner agencies who can offer support.

Four stop-searches were carried out in the area which resulted in four arrests for drugs offences and a property was visited after information had been received it was linked to a brothel. The occupants were spoken to and details passed to a specialist team dealing with modern slavery.

Retail crime in the city centre – the team have spent a lot of time directly engaging with businesses either during routine patrols or via targeted visits when crimes or incidents have been raised, such as offering crime prevention advice, collating information for crimes, assisting with suspect detection etc, resulting in 499 crime enquiries taking place.

More than 180 hours were dedicated to foot patrols in the city centre, which saw several arrests for retail-related crime including spotting outstanding suspects and responding to ‘live’ incidents which have been identified by shop staff and/or CCTV operators, as well as assisting with ten different retail crime investigations.

Drug use, dealing and associated anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of Church Walk – during the past three months, officers have conducted 195 hours of patrols within this area, engaging with residents and members of the public with a focus of targeting any reported hotspots areas within the wider Church Walk area. These dedicated patrols consisted of various plain-clothed and hi-vis duties on both foot and bicycles.

This led to various positive stop-searches being completed, numerous valuable intelligence submissions being made and an arrest after officers witnessed a drug deal in Church Walk.

Just before this priority was set, between 1st December last year and 15th January for this area there were:

  • 10 crimes recorded relating to drugs, theft, criminal damage and violence
  • 8 incidents reported relating to drugs supply, violence and rough sleepers
  • 9 intelligence items submitted relating to street sex working and drugs supply
  • 2 ‘adult protection’ referrals made in relation to suspected cuckooing
  •

Since targeted police presence and the priority being set, between 15th January and 16th March for this area there were:

  • 2 crimes recorded relating to theft and drugs possession
  • 7 incidents reported relating to drug use, public decency, drink driving and violence
  • 9 intelligence items submitted relating to drugs supply and theft
  • 8 ‘adult protection’ referrals made in relation to suspected cuckooing and exploitation
  • With 0 crimes and 4 incidents being reported within the past month.

    Kind Regards,

    Inspector Sam Tucker

    Crime prevention and useful information

The warmer weather has finally arrived! While we don’t want to put a dampener on it (no pun intended), we would like to take the opportunity to remind you have home security and taking precautions to protect your home from potential burglars.

To minimize the risk of burglary during spring and summer:

  • Consider not leaving windows open during warm weather, and make sure windows and doors are locked when not at home.
  • If people are going on holiday, avoid advertising it on social media.
  • Keep gardening tools locked away and not out on display. When storing tools, make sure locks on sheds and other outdoor buildings are properly secure.
  • You can find more burglary prevention advice on our dedicated home security webpages.
